Compared to a SCUBA Case

If I am going to say the Professional Portfolio (Pro Portfolio) case is like the New York SCUBA I should give you a comparison. I think both cases are very nice and work well for showing a model's portfolio. My sample is the next grad up from the standard SCUBA. The difference is the gray cover material (the standard case is normally black) and inside back cover pocket. So how does the Pro Portfolio case compare to the New York case-

The Cover

Both cases have simulate leather covers. The Scuba case is vinyl, the Pro Portfolio is Polypropylene.

The Pro Portfolio has a square edge spine while the Scuba case has a rounded spine.

The first big difference is the fact that the New York case has a Logo of a top-modeling agency on it, which the Pro Portfolio does not (I had to cover that up). Both cases have a nice simulated leather covers on the outside of the case. With the Pro Portfolio it is made of polypropylene while the SCUBA case it is vinyl. Both covers have a hard board backing so the cover will not bend. The Pro Portfolio adds a little padding between the cover material and the board to give it a softer, plusher feel. With the SCUBA case the cover material is pulled over the edge of the board and is glued to the back. With the Pro Portfolio case the front cover material and the inside cover material are sewn together. With the SCUBA case the inside cover material is glued on paper that covers the wrapped around cover material (on mine it has started to come unglued on the corners). With the Pro Portfolio case the inside cover and the outside cover are the same material and they are sewn together. The SCUBA case is thinner then the Pro Portfolio. The spin on the SCUBA case is round while the Pro Portfolio is squared. I think both cases have a nice professional appearance.

The Scuba case edges are tucked over and glued while the Pro Portfolio case edges are sewn.

The inside cover of the Scuba case is covered with glued on paper. The Pro Portfolio has sewn edges and the same material on the inside as on the cover.

 The Pages

Both case have top load pocket pages with black transport paper (the Pro Portfolio the pager is acid free and archival). With the SCUBA case the pages are made of "orange skin" textured vinyl. With the Pro Portfolio they are Crystal-clear, archival safe polypropylene. The vinyl of the SCUBA cases is a little thicker then the Pro Portfolio case. The SCUBA case textured pages do a better job of cutting glare on the pages from overhead lights but cloud the material you are viewing a little. With the Pro Portfolio case thinner crystal clear pages you are able to view the portfolio material crystal clear but they do pick up a lot of glare and they show scratches in manufacturing and use more predominately. So here we see two different philosophies on viewing pages. The SCUBA case has 20- 9 ½" X 12 ½" fused & glued in pages while the Pro Portfolio has 24- 9" X 12 ¼" sewn in pages. They both will hold photos and tear sheets for someone to look at.
